“Words Are Things. . .”

Maya Angelou says, “Words are things.”  She explains that words are tangible things that take up space and inhabit and influence our world and who we are.  Helping student learn to communicate clearly  through writing is more than an academic task. Helping students learn to consciously choose words, use them wisely, and use them to create their intended meaning is one way we empower students to be who they want to be and accomplish what they want to accomplish in their lives. Since we grow up using language, sometimes, it is only in the classroom setting where we and our students learn to. . .
