Turning Awareness Into Action - Purdue University Global Academic Success Center

If you do not see the podcast, click here to listen.

The Learning for Success Center at Purdue Global is “Turning Awareness Into Action” with our Mental Health Awareness Month programming this year. Students can join us in a variety of actions to improve their mental health and mental health awareness.

Read With Us!

We invite students to read with us throughout the month for our learning community book selection, “Move the Body, Heal the Mind.” In this book, Jennifer Heisz explores the ways that exercise can benefit mental health, particularly by decreasing anxiety and depression, aiding with addiction recovery, improving creativity and focus, and preventing dementia. Join the Learning for Success Center for a book discussion on Tuesday, May 27, at 1 p.m. (ET).

Move With Us!

We think Heisz’s book will inspire readers to take action by moving their bodies more, and we are encouraging that increased exercise with our “Miles for Mental Health” campaign. Students can earn miles by walking, hiking, running, cycling, skating, swimming, or rowing, and log their miles throughout the month. We’ll gather to celebrate all the miles we’ve covered on Thursday, May 29, at 6 p.m. (ET).

Learn With Us!

The Learning for Success Center also invites students to learn with us during a 30-minute “Lunch and Learn” session with Health Science Professor Jericho Leftwich. Leftwich will present “Building Mental Resilience in a Chaotic World” on Tuesday, May 20, at 1 p.m. (ET). This session will help attendees learn more about practical actions we can take to increase our mental resilience, a skill that can help us adapt to, cope with, and recover from challenges.

As always, students can also access a variety of Student Wellness Resources on our website. We hope you’ll join us throughout the month of May as we are Turning Awareness Into Action to improve our mental health!

Until next time, this is Dr. Linscott with another Learning for Success podcast. Happy Learning!
