For many people, February may signify love, flowers, and candy hearts; for writing centers around the world, February means International Writing Centers Week, and it starts next week! We are posting outside our normal biweekly schedule to raise awareness and promote writing centers worldwide.
Since 2006, the International Writing Centers Association (IWCA), an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), has observed International Writing Centers Week (IWCW), usually around Valentine’s Day. This year, International Writing Centers Week occurs February 9-13, 2026, marking two decades of celebrating the power of writing.
The purpose of designating an International Writing Centers Week is to promote the significant role of Writing Center work in the academic community (IWCA, n.d.). In honor of International Writing Centers Week, IWCA invites students and educators to celebrate writing in the upcoming week.
Visitors to the International Writing Centers Week site can view this interactive map of writing centers and add their own centers to the world map. Visitors can also discover ways to share their love of writing and promote it via social media. Finally, readers can discover how writing center staff, tutors, and directors have celebrated this week in the past few years.
We hope you enjoy learning more about writing centers and the important role they’ve played in the academic community! Join us back here on February 27 for our regularly scheduled blog post.
